Biography

Dr. Baratta’s leadership in academic medicine is evident in his role as the dean of academic medicine at the Global Medical Education Institute (GMEI) and as the editor-in-chief of Global Medical Education Institute Publishing (GMEIP).

Dr. Baratta’s influence extends globally, as evidenced by his renowned authority on neurodegenerative diseases. His book, “A Compendium of Degenerative Brain Diseases, with Sections of Neurophysiology and Neuropharmacology,” published in 2001, has been used by medical schools worldwide. In 2008, the ALS Association of Florida honored him by establishing the Dr. Larry G. Baratta Research and Patient Service Fund for his significant contributions.

In 2023, Dr. Baratta was the managing editor of “The Misdiagnosis Casebook in Clinical Medicine, A Case-Based Guide,” published by Springer Nature.

From 2002 to 2005, he was the Miami Herald’s Travel Health columnist. Dr. Baratta has over 27 scientific and non-scientific publications.

Dr. Baratta has a distinguished background, including extensive experience as a medical school’s former dean, chairman, and professor in the Department of Integrated Clinical Medicine. His expertise is further validated by his ESME certification (Essential Skills in Medical Education).

Dr. Baratta’s role extends beyond his research and writing. As a mentor, he is committed to guiding and inspiring the next generation of medical professionals, assisting medical students who strive to publish articles in various scientific journals, and as chapter authors of medical textbooks.

Upon learning that his goddaughter was born with six cardiac defects and developed acute scoliosis, he was profoundly moved. In 2012, he authored the beloved children’s book “My Bones and Me,” dedicating it to her as a tribute. His book was displayed at the Miami International Book Fair and lauded by elementary school educators for its thoughtful and unique style of using didactic and Socratic teaching methods to reinforce the shapes and sizes of the skeletal system.


Dr. Baratta graduated from Lyceum-Northwestern University College of Medicine in Dagupan City, Philippines, in 1988. The City of Dagupan accorded him the distinction of an Honorary Citizen and Adopted Son for his extensive philanthropic and humanitarian service by establishing numerous barrio medical clinics for the underserved and awarding academic high school scholarships. In 1999, Dr. Baratta earned a Ph.D. in Psychology with a specialization in Neuropsychology (Cum Laude) from LaSalle University.
